last updated: 04/16/08 09:22.30 (PDT)
On Friday April 11 2008 at 5:30 PM (PDT) the USArray seismic network recorded an earthquake (preliminary Mw 7.1) located in the Maquarie Island Region.
Initial source parameters for this tremor are indicated below. The epicentral distance (i.e. distance separating the epicenter and the closest station in the recording network, SNCC) for the USArray is 12520 km (112.48 degrees).
If you felt the quake, the USGS would like to know. Please add your comments to the USGS page "Did you feel it?".
Location Maps
The red star denotes the earthquake epicenter. Triangle symbols are active stations at the time of the earthquake in the USArray (excluding ANSS backbone stations, which are represented by a diamond symbol) and colored by network. Gray lines are major rivers.

Waveforms
You may view plots showing this event as recorded by USArray instruments:
- Vertical components from every eighth USArray station that recorded the event across the whole network
- 3 components recorded by the closest USArray station to the event
- 3 components recorded by the closest USArray station to the event (large size)
Note that in the coda is an event from the Kuril Islands, off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan (mb 5.7) that occurred on 04/12/2008 (103) 00:46 UTC. This causes some distortion of the waveforms from the Macquarie Island Region event.
